5 members of WJSN have officially left the girl group today!

"Starship Entertainment has recently renewed the contracts with WJSN's eight members Exy, Seola, Bona, Soobin, Eunseo, Yeoreum, Dayoung, and Yeonjung."

With this statement, Starship Entertainment caused both consternation and joy today, a few days after WJSN's 7th anniversary. This is because the girl group actually consists of 13 members. The statement means that five members have unfortunately left the group. However, some fans feared that WJSN would completely disband, so it is a reason to rejoice that they will continue with eight.

The girl group, also known as "Cosmic Girls," debuted on February 25, 2016 with the mini album "Would You Like?" and 12 members. In July, Yeonjung from I.O.I joined the group. Since then, the group officially consisted of 13 members.

In the statement, Starship also explains that the contracts of Chinese members Xuan Yi, Cheng Xiao and Mei Qi automatically expired.

This is not a big surprise for fans, as the three have already not participated in WJSN's activities since 2018 and have instead been touring China as singers and actresses. In fact, the three were only involved in the first five albums, most recently "Dream Your Dream" (February 2018).

Since then, the remaining 10 members have released seven more albums together and four subunit albums.

Somewhat more shocking is the news that Luda and Dawon have also parted ways with the group:

"We have had sincere and in-depth discussions with members Luda and Dawon for a long time, but unfortunately our exclusive contracts [with Luda and Dawon] will expire. We thank Luda and Dawon for the great effort and dedication they have shown so far. We respect Luda and Dawon's decisions and will cheer and support their new activities and ways." - Starship Ent.

So now WJSN officially consists of only eight members.

Just last year, the girl group gained attention when they won the Queendom 2 music competition , beating other successful stars such as Kep1er, Loona and Hyolyn. WJSN participated with nine members, without Dawon. But a few days after the final, the single album Sequence was released (July 5) with 10 members including Dawon.

The success was a small breakthrough for WJSN, because at the beginning of Queendom 2, the group said of themselves that they had only a few hits and were not very successful.

We are relieved that WJSN will remain with us and wish the other five members the best for their future. Especially Luda and Dawon, who are now really facing a new start.
