Do you know Youha? The talented singer made her debut in September 2020 with the self-written single “ISLAND”.
With her soulful voice and charming smile, she captivated us right away! If you missed ISLAND and Youha's other singles like ICE T or Abittipsy, you should definitely give them a listen! Most recently, her first EP “love you more,” was released in August 2022.
Youha recently came to Germany and sat down for an interview with our TikTok manager Sophia. Among other things, they talk about Youha’s time in Germany, her inspiration and her latest album!
(The interview was conducted in English. We translated it for you.)
Sophia: Hi everyone, this is Sophia from Nolae and today I'm here with the wonderful Youha, who is going to answer a few questions for me. Before we get to the questions, Youha, can you introduce yourself to all your new fans?
Youha: Hi, my name is Youha and I'm a singer-songwriter from Korea.
S: Today we're mainly going to talk about music, but before we start, I'd really like to know how you like Germany so far?
Y: Very good.
S: Yeah?
Y: I really love it! The food is so good. And it's Christmas market season.
S: Exactly.
Y: I met my fans. It was my first time. They were so cool, friendly and sweet. I really loved it.
S: That's so nice to hear.
S: If you had to describe your own music in three words, what would they be?
Y: Love and passion and energy, maybe.
S: As I already told you, I love your music and I've listened to your new mini album a lot, so it's very hard for me to pick a favorite song. I think it might be "Flower Rain".
Y: Flower Rain?
S: Yes, I really like that song.
So, I'd like to know: Do you have a favorite song on your new album?
Y: Ah, it's so hard to decide because they're my babies. But I actually like "Last Dance". Because it's very sad, you know, and a little bit sexy, and it's the title track.
S: Speaking of "Last Dance": It's your title track and you said it's an emotional song, right?
Y: Yes.
S: We saw the performance video. You and your dance partner told a kind of story. Can you tell us a bit more about the story?
Y: I really wanted the song and the choreography to look sad. My dance teacher taught me in great detail, and I worked really hard at every practice.
S: You did a really great job.
You can watch the music video and the performance video for "Last Dance" on YouTube:
S: When did you decide that you wanted to become a singer and what inspired you to do so?
Y: I've loved listening to music since I was a child. So naturally it came to my mind -
S: A childhood dream?
Y: Yes.
S: That's so cool.
Y: Yes, haha
S: But you're not just a singer, you're also a very good songwriter, right? For example - correct me if I'm wrong - but you worked on songs like "Paint The Town" by Loona -
Y: Right.
S: - and "What I Said" by Victon.
Y: Yes.
S: Really great songs!
Is there a particular artist you have in mind that you'd like to write a song for?
Y: I would really like to write a song for IVE and Blackpink. But you know, they're already superstars. So yeah, that's just my dream.
S: But I can imagine it. It would really fit well.
Y: Really?
S: Yes, I think so.
Besides Paint The Town, the lyrics for other Loona songs like "WOW" and "Not Friends" also come from Youha’s pen. She has also written songs for the girl groups bugAboo and Class:y, as well as for the survival show "My Teenage Girl", in which Class:y was formed.
S: But when it comes to your own music, what is your biggest inspiration? Is there an artist who inspires you, or is it just everyday life?
Y: Actually, it's just me. Me and my fans. They're so sweet and I really love them.
S: Do you already have new music in the works that will be coming out soon?
Y: That's actually a big secret. But yes, I'm working on something right now. Please keep an eye out.
S: What is your favorite song this year?
Y: Definitely Last Dance by Youha.
S: Yes, that's right.
Y: The EP album "Love You More" is my favorite.
S: You should listen to it.
Have you listened to the album yet?
S: What goals do you still want to achieve?
Y: I really want to become a better singer, keep developing and release a good album. And I hope that one day I can perform in Germany, I would really love to do that.
S: And finally: Is there anything you'd like to say to your fans?
Y: Thank you so much for always supporting me, caring about me and loving me. I love you. I love you so much.
Thank you. I love you.
S: Yes, that was good.
Honestly, we're surprised at how good Youha’s pronunciation is. German is very difficult for most foreigners, but we understood every word clearly!
It's not over yet! Last but not least, a few quick questions.
Here we go! :)
S: If you had to choose between singing and dancing, which would you pick?
Y: That's hard, but singing. Because I'm a singer.
S: Would you rather win the lottery or meet your soulmate?
Y: Meet my soulmate… like you.
*Both laugh*
S: Ariana Grande or Beyoncé?
Y: Beyoncé? Yes, she's a queen.
S: That she is.
Y: But I also love Ariana.
S: Wake up early or sleep in?
Y: Sleep in.
S: Iced Americano or Hot Chocolate?
Y: Iced Americano.
S: Would you rather be the smartest or the richest person in the world?
Y: The richest?
S: Netflix or YouTube?
Y: YouTube, I love YouTube.
S: Last question: Would you rather have a time machine or a magic wand like Harry Potter?
Y: Harry Potter.
That's a wrap! It's really heartwarming to see how much Youha loves her fans. We really hope that her fandom will keep growing this year. And it seems we can look forward to new music soon!
