Monsta X fans have to say goodbye to Minhyuk for a while

“On April 4th, I won’t be able to see you all much for a very short period of time due to my military service.”
Minhyuk announced this to his fans yesterday in a handwritten letter. Like all men in South Korea, he must serve in the military for at least 18 months. So in just under three weeks we'll have to say goodbye to the idol for a while.

It wouldn't have taken much for the boy group to be reunited. In April, Shownu will also return from the military, probably just a few days after Minhyuk began his service! This means that Shownu will soon be the first member of Monsta X to finish his service. Minhyuk is only the second to go into the military.
The news isn't all that surprising. After all, Minhyuk is the second oldest after Shownu and turns 30 in November this year. Idols can postpone their military service, but they have to leave by the time they turn 30 at the latest. This means that it will be Kihyun's turn very soon, as he will also be turning 30 in November. This will be followed by Hyungwon, who will celebrate his milestone birthday in January 2024.
So it will be a while before Monsta X is reunited. But fortunately that doesn't mean we have to do without the boys completely. As before, all other members will probably continue to record albums together and devote themselves to solo projects. We're especially excited to see what Shownu plans to do next!
Have your favorite idols already completed their military service? Or is it still ahead of them? Let us know in the comments!
