Twice fans can be relieved: the girl group is staying together!

Twice Fans können aufatmen: Die Girlgroup bleibt zusammen!

As a rule, new idols sign a 7-year contract with their label before their debut in South Korea. After seven years, an important decision has to be made: sign a new contract or not. A lot can happen in a year, so it's no wonder that idols often decide not to renew their contract. For groups, this can lead to them disbanding. Especially with smaller groups, it's often enough if just one member decides against a new contract. Over the years, even very popular groups like 2NE1 and GFriend were hit by the 7-year curse and disbanded. That's why fans are always nervous when their favorite group's contract is nearing its end.

Twice fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief today, because all nine members have signed a contract with JYP Entertainment again!

K-pop girl group from JYP Entertainment: Twice - debut album

The label announced this happy news just a few hours ago. The extremely successful girl group debuted at the end of October 2015, so they would have had to make a decision in three months at the latest. Luckily, Twice isn't keeping us in suspense any longer! So for now, things continue as usual! The new exclusive contracts are usually shorter than the original 7-year contracts. They probably apply for 2-3 years for now.

Other groups that recently faced the big decision include Monsta X and Oh My Girl, for example:

K-pop boy group Monsta X:

Jiho of Oh My Girl decided against renewing her contract in May. The remaining six members stayed with WM Entertainment, though, and will continue to be active as Oh My Girl.

As for the popular boy group Monsta X, not everything has been decided yet! Three of the members - Shownu, Kihyun and Hyungwon - have already decided to stay with Starship Entertainment. Minhyuk, Joohoney and I.M, on the other hand, still seem to be in contract negotiations. Hopefully it's only a matter of time until they sign a new contract too. We're keeping our fingers crossed that we'll still see Monsta X together on stage in the future!
