Most future K-pop idols train both their singing and dancing at the latest when they join an agency. The members of Day6 have instead learned to play an instrument professionally. This makes them one of the few rock bands among all the idol groups we love so much.

5Live

Most of the members of Day6 were featured on YG Entertainment's survival show "WIN: Who Is Next" long before their debut, which aired from August to October 2013. YG's founder Yang Hyunsuk visited JYP Entertainment with his trainees in the fourth episode of the show. There, the two founders had their trainees compete in various categories. Sungjin, Jae, Young K, Junhyeok, and Woonpil performed as five for JYP at that time.

The trainees of YG later debuted as Winner and iKon, while the other JYP trainees who participated in the battle alongside the members of Day6 are now known as Got7.

As late as 2015, Sungjin, Jae, Young K, Junhyeok, and Wonpil were still scheduled to debut under the name "5Live." In 2013, the five had even released a soundtrack - "Lovely Girl" for the K drama "Bel Ami" - as 5Live. However, in mid-2015, drummer Dowoon joined the group and so the group was renamed Day6.

Debut

On September 7, 2015, Day6 finally debuted with their first album "The Day" and the title track "Congratulations." With it, they even reached number two on the Billboard charts!

Over the next few months, the band held a concert in Korea, one in Taiwan, and even a fan meeting in Singapore in September.

Junhyeok leaves the band

After Day6 had just really made a splash, JYP Entertainment announced in late February 2016 that Junhyeok was leaving the band for personal reasons. Fans speculate that he had to leave because of dating rumors.

In 2017, Junhyeok was featured in the survival show "The Unit." In 2018, he debuted solo and released two albums; one Korean and one Japanese.

So at the end of March, Day6 presented the second album "Daydream" with five members. To date, the line-up has not changed.

All members of Day6 not only play instruments, but also sing. Dowoon, however, has rarely been heard for a long time. The short moments are all the more beautiful for that!

Every Day6 Projekt

day6 every day6 projekt promotional teaser image

In December 2016, Day6 announced a project called "Every Day6." Over the next year, they released two new singles every month as part of the project!

No sooner said than done. Fans could actually enjoy two brand new singles at the beginning of each month! In June and December, the band also released one album each, which included all previously released singles.

The album "Sunrise" released in June includes all ten singles released from January to May, new versions of "Congratulations" (from "The Day") and "Letting Go" (from "Daydream"), as well as two new singles.

Along with the album, Day6 also presented the official name for their fan club: "MyDay"

In December, the fourth album "Moonrise" was released, which includes the ten singles from July to November, three new singles and new versions of all five B-sides from "The Day".

Japan debut

After the end of the Every Day6 project, the band returns in February 2018 with the first Japanese single "If (Mata Aetara)"! The single serves as the soundtrack for the Japanese series "Repeat".

In April, the band held their first concert in Japan and in June, they released another Japanese single called "Stop the Rain".

To make their foreign fans even happier, Day6 presented their first Best Off album in the same month. "The Best Day" mainly contains the Japanese versions of the previously released Korean singles.

With "Shoot Me: Youth Part 1", a new Korean album is finally released in June, six months after "Moonrise". Then in October, Day6 releases their first Japanese studio album "Unlock" before "Remember Us: Youth Part 2" is released in December.

July 2019: "The Book of Us"

On July 15, 2019, the new album "The Book of Us: Gravity" kicked off the five-part "The Book of Us" series. The title track "Time of Our Life" earned Day6 their first music show win almost two years after their debut! A successful start!

"The Book of Us: Entropy. " followed in October. The year didn't end there for the fans of the band, but with the second Japanese Best Off album: "The Best Day2". On May 11, 2020, the third part of the series will be released: "The Book of Us: The Demon". A day earlier, JYP Entertainment announced that Day6 was taking a break to focus on health. The album was still released as planned, but there were no performances to go with it. Even without promotion, all seven songs placed in the top 100 of streaming sites like Melon, Bugs and Genie. The title track "Zombie" even reached #1!

It should take almost a year before fans could celebrate a new Day6 album again. But in the meantime the first subunit of the band debuted:

Even of Day

The unit "Even of Day" consists of Young K, Wonpil and Dowoon. The three made their debut on August 31, 2020 with "The Book of Us: Gluon" and the title track "Where the Sea Sleeps." The album joins "The Book of Us" series. Thus, it belongs almost as much to Day6 discography as all other albums, although it is "only" from one unit. That doesn't happen often, if ever. It gives one the wonderful feeling that Day6 works together even when the members are on the road separately.

Even of Day also released the single "So, This Is Love" together on January 15, 2021 as part of the music show "Secret Atelier." At the end of the month, the three even gave their first online concert!

2021: Solo debut, military service, discography and glimpses of the future!

At the end of February 2021, JYP Entertainment announced that Day6 would finally release a new album with all five members in April. So eleven months after "The Book of Us: The Demon", "The Book of Us: Negentropy" was finally released with the title track "You Make Me".

Day6 did not promote the album because Sungjin had started his military service in March and was therefore not present. He had recorded the album before he began his service.

The album marks the end of "The Book of Us" series, almost two years after it began.

In addition, both Young K and Dowoon debuted solo in September. Young K's first solo album "Eternal" was released on September 6 and Dowoon's debut single "Out of the Blue" on September 27.

Young K has also been in the military since October 12. So currently Jae, Wonpil and Dowoon are still active. When the three will start their service is not yet known.

Since a few days we know that Wonpil will also make his solo debut in early 2021. So it will not be quiet around the band so fast!
