BIOGRAPHY

Hyein (이혜인) is a South Korean singer and the youngest member of the popular girl group NewJeans. She was born on April 21, 2008 in the Incheon district, South Korea. Hyein grew up in a supportive family with her parents and an older sister. From a young age she showed talent and passion for performing and began her career as a child model and entertainer.

Hyein attended Munhak Elementary School, but later decided to leave school to focus on her career. Nevertheless, she successfully passed the exams to continue her education. Her path into the entertainment industry began with modeling jobs for brands such as "Tara N Co" and "Emart No Brand", as well as taking part in international fashion events such as "Mercedes Benz Fashion Week" in Moscow.

In 2017, Hyein debuted as a member of the child idol group "U.SSO Girl" under the stage name Ujeong. From 2019 to 2021 she joined the "Play With Me Club", where she appeared in various formats such as vlogs, web dramas and entertainment shows. In 2021, Hyein applied to ADOR and impressed the team with her performance of BLACKPINK’s "Lovesick Girls". She became a trainee and trained for one year and two months before officially debuting with NewJeans on July 22, 2022.

The girl group NewJeans, which debuted on July 22, 2022 under the ADOR label, quickly became a global sensation thanks to their innovative music and fascinating charisma. In a short time, the group broke streaming records, stormed the charts worldwide and received numerous awards, including “Best New Group”, “Artist of the Year” and “Song of the Year” at prestigious awards ceremonies. With their fresh approach and unforgettable performances, the members of NewJeans continue to shape the future of K-pop. We have summarized their greatest successes for you:

• 2022: The debut album NewJeans sold over 440,000 copies in the first three days of the pre-order period, setting a record for the highest sales of a debut album by a K-pop girl group at that time.
• 2022: NewJeans became the first Korean artist to enter the US Spotify charts with their debut song: “Attention” landed at number 183.
• 2022: They became the third K-pop girl group to reach number 1 on the music shows of all three major television networks (KBS, SBS, MBC) with their debut song.
• 2023: On February 2, "Ditto" reached 655 perfect-all-kills (PAKs), setting a new record for most PAKs by a K-pop song.
• 2023: NewJeans won several major awards (Daesangs) in one year, including for "Ditto", further solidifying their influence in the music industry.
• 2023: They reached more than 10 million Spotify streams in record time, showing their global appeal.
• 2023: NewJeans became the first K-pop group to collaborate with global brands such as Apple Music for exclusive content and promotions.
• 2024: NewJeans hosts the “Bunnies Camp 2024” fan meeting in the Tokyo Dome. No K-pop artist before had performed so quickly after debuting at the Tokyo Dome.
• 2024: NewJeans set a record as the 4th generation K-pop group with the most Daesang wins. The girl group received a total of 10 Daesangs.
• 2024: NewJeans left ADOR in December 2024 due to the ongoing conflict between Min Hee-jin and Hybe, after Min was dismissed as CEO and NewJeans' demands were rejected.

Hyein is the youngest member of NewJeans.

At her debut, Hyein received attention for her unique, model-like looks, which were seen as "fitting the group’s Y2K concept". Her visuals were compared to those of actress Kim Min Hee. As NewJeans expanded into further musical genres with their first comeback, Hyein received more recognition from the wider public for her distinctive tone of voice. Her voice was praised by IU when NewJeans appeared on an episode of IU’s "Palette".

ILLUSTRATION

In December 2022, Louis Vuitton announced Hyein as one of its new global ambassadors, making her the brand’s youngest ambassador in its history at just 14 years old. She also represented Louis Vuitton at Paris Fashion Week, underlining her influence in the fashion world.

In April 2023, Hyein reached another milestone by becoming the youngest cover model to grace the cover of "Harper’s Bazaar Korea".

Hyein is praised for her distinctive vocal tone, her stable live performances and her versatility in genres such as chill R&B and hip-hop. She is often referred to as NewJeans’ unofficial "opening fairy", known for her memorable intros and opening verses in songs such as "Attention", "Ditto" and "Cookie". Hyein has also shown her talent for rapping on tracks such as "Super Shy" and "Cool With You".

Besides her singing talent, Hyein is known for her energetic and powerful dance style, especially her fluid upper body movements and body waves as well as her skillful hair flips. She earned herself the nickname "Human Attention" from fans, thanks to her elegant expressions and central position in key formations during performances such as "Attention".
