In February 2022, JYP Entertainment's newest girl group NMIXX debuted, attracting a lot of attention with their unusual debut song. Although the debut was not even a year ago, the members of NMIXX have proven their talent with cover videos, among other things, and made a name for themselves. If you don't know what the girl group is yet, it's time you got to know them!

Pre-Debut
On July 9, 2021, everything started rolling when JYP Entertainment announced that a new girl group would take the stage in February 2022. Of course, anticipation was high among K-Pop fans, as it had been more than two years since the debut of JYP's last girl group ITZY. Both ITZY and their agency colleagues Twice had great success with their first album and are still very popular today. The concepts of the two groups are very different, so no one knew exactly what the new girl group would look like.
The excitement became even greater when an album entitled “JYPn Blind Package” was made available for pre-order that same month. “JYPn” was the tentative title for the new girl group, whose name had not yet been decided at the time. (“n” stood for “now,” “next,” “new,” and the unknown.) The blind package is a limited version of the debut album, which was scheduled to be released in February 2022 and could only be pre-ordered from July 16th to 25th. A bold and risky move by JYP Entertainment, after all, fans didn't know the name of the new group or the members, let alone how many members there would be.
But the risk paid off! Since JYP is known for producing hits, many fans trusted that the new group would also be a success and bought the blind package. After all, it was the only chance to get the limited edition, which would no longer be available later.
In fact, over 60,000 copies were sold!
On August 5th, the first video was finally uploaded to a new YouTube channel, in which three of the future girl group members introduced themselves with a dance cover:
In the following weeks, a total of seven members were revealed through further cover videos: Lily, Haewon, Sullyoon, Jinnie, Bae, Jiwoo & Kyujin.

Most of the members were unknown to fans until then, but some may have recognized Lily. At the age of 12, Lily appeared in the fourth season of the Korean talent show “Kpop Star”. At that time she was still known under the stage name Lily M.
Lily made it to the live shows and eventually even came in 4th place! In May 2015, it was announced that Lily had signed a contract with JYP Entertainment. Since then, her fans have been waiting for her debut. In the following years, they were able to catch a glimpse of Lily a few more times. Among other things, she had a guest appearance in season 6 of Kpop Star and was also briefly seen in the show “ Stray Kids ”, in which the boy group of the same name was founded.
Debut
On January 26, 2022, less than a month before the debut, JYP finally announced the name for the new girl group: Nmixx
Nmixx consists of the letter “N” and the English word “mix”. Like JYPn, the “N” stands for “now”, “new”, “next” and the unknown. The word “mix” literally means “mixture” and in this case symbolizes combination and diversity. Everything together represents “the best combination for a new era”.
On February 22nd, the wait was finally over: Nmixx officially made their debut with the single album “Ad Mare” and released a music video for the title song “OO”!
The song is a mix of several genres such as pop, rock and hip hop and may not have been as well received by fans as expected. Many criticized it for being too chaotic and not having a consistent melody. But apparently there were at least as many people who liked it, because the album topped the weekly Korean Gaon album charts! But no matter how mixed the opinions were, the debut undoubtedly attracted attention!
Unfortunately, the debut showcase had to be postponed because Bae tested positive for Corona, but the album and music video still came out on time.
The showcase was rescheduled just a few days later, on March 1st. There Nmixx also announced their official fandom name: “NSWER”. The name is an acronym from the first letters of “North South West East Route”. The name means that Nmixx will find the route and the answer together with their fans!
At the end of the day, idols can't get far without their fans, so we all contribute to their success and are a part of their story!
New Singles
Since their debut, the members of Nmixx continued to regularly upload videos to their YouTube channel. They have also released a few singles and recorded a music video for each: In May, the two songs “Hey Gabby” and “Sprinkle Party” were released as the soundtrack for a children's animated series called Gabby's Dollhouse:
At the end of July there was a cover of “Kiss”, a song by the girl group Rainbow from 2009. The cover was recorded as part of the “Summer Vacation Project”, in which fromis_9 and Oh My Girl Banhana also took part. The project gave them the chance to reinterpret old songs. Thanks to these singles and the song covers that Nmixx published on their YouTube channel, the members were able to show off their singing talent very often.
The girl group is now known for the fact that all seven members, without exception, have powerful and beautiful voices!
The first comeback!
So it wasn’t quiet around Nmixx, but fans were still very happy when the first comeback was announced: On September 19th, Nmixx returned with their second single album “ENTWURF” !
The title track "Dice" is once again a mix of different genres, in this case pop, jazz, trap and hip-hop:
