BIOGRAPHY

Tzuyu (쯔위) was born on June 14, 1999 in Tainan, Taiwan. Her parents - Huang Yenling & Chou Yicheng - own a plastic surgery clinic and several cafes. Tzuyu also has an older brother who prefers to remain private.

From a young age, Tzuyu enjoyed dancing and trained at a dance academy. In 2012 she was discovered by talent scouts while performing at the “MUSE Performing Arts Workshop” in her hometown of Tainan. Tzuyu then moved to Korea and trained with JYP Entertainment for three years. In 2015, she competed with 15 other trainees for a spot in JYP's new girl group. She successfully prevailed and debuted as a member of Twice on October 20, 2015.

TWICE

TWICE is a popular South Korean girl group formed by JYP Entertainment. She officially debuted on October 20, 2015 with her first mini-album “The Story Begins”. The group consists of nine members: Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung and Tzuyu.

The long-established group has celebrated many successes in recent years. We have summarized the most important ones for you:

• Within five months of release, the music video for the title song “Like OOH-AHH” was viewed 50 million times. It was the most viewed debut music video by a K-pop group. The video later even surpassed the 100 million mark.
• In 2016, the song "Cheer Up" became a huge hit and won Song of the Year at the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA).
• In 2017, TWICE successfully debuted in Japan with the single "One More Time", which broke the record for the best-selling single by a Kpop girl group in Japan.
• In 2018, they held their first arena concert in Japan and released the Japanese album "BDZ", which reached number 1 on the Oricon Charts.
• In 2019, TWICE launched their world tour "TWICELIGHTS", which enjoyed great success and took place in cities around the world.
• With the release of the singles "More & More" and "I CAN'T STOP ME", they achieved high chart positions and cemented TWICE's status as a leading K-pop group.
• In 2021 they released their first English-language single "The Feels", which was successful in various international charts.
• TWICE reached 2022 with the album "Formula of Love: O+T=<3" Number 3 on the Billboard 200, their highest chart entry in the USA.
• In 2023, TWICE released their twelfth mini album "Ready to Be" and announced their fifth world tour.

Tzuyu is the youngest member of Twice.

She debuted at the age of 16 and quickly attracted attention thanks to her beauty. At her debut, Tzuyu could not yet speak Korean fluently and was rather shy. However, over the course of her career, she not only learned Korean but also Japanese and English, and she has also developed her singing skills. In 2024, Tzuyu even started a solo career!

SOLO CAREER

Almost 10 years after her debut with Twice, Tzuyu took a new step. On September 6, 2024, her debut solo album “abouTZU” was released. It contains six tracks, including the title song “Run Away.”

This makes Tzuyu the third member of Twice to release their own album. Leader Nayeon started in 2022, followed by Jihyo in 2023.

SONGWRITING CREDITS

Tzuyu made her songwriting debut in 2019 with the song “21:29" from Twice's eighth mini album “Feel Special”. In 2022, she co-wrote the Japanese song “Celebrate” with the other members of Twice from the album of the same name, and in 2024, she worked on “Fly” from her debut solo album “abouTZU”.

ILLUSTRATION

Tzuyu is known for her beauty and inspires fashion brands worldwide. In 2022, two fashion brands chose her as their muse: the Korean clothing brand “Zooc” and the Japanese cosmetics brand “Visée”. Of course, Tzuyu also often appears in front of the camera for fashion magazines and has graced the cover more than once.

• Because of her big eyes and serious demeanor, Tzuyu is affectionately known as “Yoda” by her band members and fans.
• Tzuyu was one of the first Taiwanese K-Pop idols, along with Mark from GOT7.
• She often sleeps with her eyes open.
• Tzuyu can move her ears.
• She can play guzheng. This is a classical Chinese instrument with strings.
• Tzuyu makes it into TC Candler’s “100 Most Beautiful Faces” list every year. In 2019 it was even number 1.
• She is often referred to as “Evil Maknae” because she is very direct and sometimes sassy.
• Tzuyu had the most votes from viewers in Sixteen.

OUR FAVOURITE PERFORMANCE

Tzuyu has said before her debut that she wants to be known more for her talent and less for her beauty. Although she is still praised for her beautiful face, she has also regularly impressed with her singing and other talents over the years. While Tzuyu doesn't have the strongest or most special voice, she has a clear, pleasant tone that is well received by fans.
