Seventeen breaks records of BTS and makes history!

Seventeen has continuously released successful albums over the past few years and has long been among the absolute top of the K-pop industry. Last year, with their fourth studio album Face The Sun , the boy group showed that they are far from finished and continue to outdo themselves. In fact, Face the Sun was the second best-selling album of 2022, surpassed only by BTS Proof. So no one doubted that the new album 'FML' will also be successful. But still Seventeen surprised us:

FML is not only very successful, but has already made history!

Remember when global boy band BTS broke all records in 2020 with Map of the Soul: 7 ? It's the best-selling K-pop album of all time, but Seventeen's FML has already broken a few of the records the album set!

The first record is for pre-orders: FML has been pre-ordered 4.64 million times, more than any other K-Pop album before it!

Until then, Map of the Soul: 7 had held the record with 4.02 million pre-orders for over three years without anyone coming close. FML not only came close, but surpassed Map of the Soul's pre-orders by more than half a million!

Seventeen's personal pre-order record was 2 million, set almost exactly a year earlier by Face The Sun.

But that's just one of Seventeen's latest achievements. In addition, FML was also sold more times than any other K-Pop album on the first day after release!

FML was released yesterday, April 24, after weeks of anticipation fueled by various teasers. Within the first 24 hours, fans bought over 3.99 million copies, according to Hanteo! (Hanteo is one of the two largest charts in South Korea and gives real-time sales figures).

Seventeen's personal record was 2.067 million copies of Face The Sun sold within the first week of release. The boy band surpassed that number with FML on its very first day! In addition, the boys have also surpassed the record of BTS Map of the Soul: 7, which sold 2.65 million copies on the first day and was unmatched until yesterday.

So FML has been sold more times on the first day after release than any other K-Pop album in the same period. Moreover, it is the first and so far only K-Pop album in Hanteo's history to sell more than 3 million copies on the first day. And that's by far, after all, the boy group almost cracked the 4 million mark! We are curious to see how long this record will last, because the boy group will certainly not be imitated so quickly.

And what will happen next?

We will undoubtedly be able to congratulate Seventeen more often. The boy band is well on its way to breaking the records for the highest sales in the first week or month as well. FML is already the best-selling album of the year and we believe that it will hold this position until the end of the year.

It would be the first time in eight years that the best-selling album of the year doesn't come from BTS! RM, Jungkook and Co took the number 1 spot for the first time in 2016 with "Wings" and have claimed it every year since. Since the members of BTS are currently going into the military one by one and won't be releasing a new album as a group anytime soon, even they have little chance of breaking Seventeen's record this year.

And yet another record of BTS is in danger. With 5,022,204 million copies sold (as of January 2023), Map of the Soul: 7 remains the best-selling K-pop album of all time. Will FML by Seventeen surpass that number?
