Everything the K-Pop heart desires!
Fan merchandise such as posters, T-shirts and CDs have always been an indispensable part of "being a fan". Who wouldn't want to decorate the walls of their room with posters of their favorite band, proudly display their logo on a T-shirt for everyone else to see, or have their favorite CDs ready to hand on the shelf? K-Pop fans are no different, and you in particular have an incredibly wide selection of fan merchandise to choose from that is as colorful and diverse as the music itself.
We don't want you to miss out on any of it, so we'll give you an overview of what you can treat yourself to next!
CDs are probably the best-known fan item, and although the silver discs are increasingly being replaced by streaming services and not every household has a CD player for a long time, they continue to enjoy great popularity in the K-pop scene. This is mainly because there is so much more to
K-pop albums than just the CD. In most cases, they are accompanied by a photo book and extras like photo cards, stickers, bookmarks and postcards. Best of all, each album is different.
Sometimes it's a box, sometimes it's a bound book, sometimes it's big, sometimes it's small, thick or thin, red, white, black or blue. So you can look forward to a surprise every time and your shelf will definitely not look boring!
Besides albums of bands, you can also buy soundtracks
of Korean series, which often feature songs of popular groups or individual members.
Of course, regardless of CDs, separate photo books or magazines with photo shoots of the favorite band are also published every now and then, which also invite you to rave.
K-pop is not only a pleasure for the ears, but also for the eyes. That's why, in addition to CDs, there are of course
DVDs to buy, which include concert footage or exclusive behind-the-scenes material, and which also come with a photo book in most cases.
Often, limited or special versions of albums also contain a DVD in addition to the CD, which shows the music video, for example.
If you want your favorite band with you all year long, this is the place to go!
Season Greetings usually include a calendar, planner and photo book, but beyond that they vary greatly. Usually a number of extras are included, such as pens, photo cards, stickers, bookmarks, keychains, or even DVDs with Behind the Scenes footage.
Small extras such as keychains, buttons and stickers are, of course, available for purchase separately, independent of albums and Season Greetings.
Season Greetings are always sold just before the start of a new year, so the calendars and planners can be used from day one. Whether it's BTS, Seventeen, Blackpink, SHINee or even solo artists like Chungha and IU, each band releases their own Season Greeting. You're sure to find what you're looking for.
Maybe next year you'll write your dates in a planner with photos of your favorite artist?
Each band has its own Lightstick, an elaborately designed lamp that usually glows in the official band colors. K-pop fans take the Lightsticks, which are easily powered by batteries, to concerts or other performances of their favorite band. This creates a sea of lights in the dark arenas, also called "Ocean" by K-pop fans, which the artists can see in all its glory from the stage and which motivates them. At festivals where different artists perform, the fans of one group usually sit together and stand out from other groups of fans by the different lightsticks, so the bands can see directly where their fans are sitting.
Each band is known for its own "Ocean" that lights up in the band's colors. In addition, each Lightstick even has its own name.
Here we give you a few examples:
From left to right: BTS: Army Bomb, Twice: Candy Bong, SHINee: Shating Star
Especially with bands that have been in the business for a long time, there are different versions of Lightsticks, because every few years a new one comes out. With some Lightsticks the design changes only slightly, with others there is a bigger difference.
At concerts these days, they can also often be connected with Bluetooth, where they are then all controlled together, so that they all light up in the same color or even create optical color waves that run through the whole arena.
Even if you don't have the opportunity to attend a concert, the Lightstick is a special addition to your collection that won't look out of place during an evening in front of the TV with your favorite band's music videos. Even those who watch a concert online or on DVD can use their Lightstick.
Lightsticks are also available as keychains, cute miniature versions of the beautiful lamps that can also light up.
T shirts, jackets or bags: Of course, K-pop fans can also buy clothes with the logo of their favorite bands or other motifs. Some idols even design themselves, such as Ten from NCT, who just this year released his own clothing collection.
Besides albums, clothing and the other fan articles listed here, there is of course always something new. For example, the mega band BTS has its own collection of Funko Pop figurines, with which you can make your album shelf even more personal.
You can also find puzzles, playing cards, bottles, wallets, posters, bedside lamps, socks, smartphone holders, coasters, airpod covers and pillows, among other things, with which you can make your everyday life a little more beautiful.
As you can see, it's worth keeping your eyes open and taking a look at your K-pop store every now and then so that you don't miss out on anything, especially because some albums and fan articles are only available for a limited time.
