Just in time for Blackpink's return with a new album and the announced world tour, you now have another chance to get your hands on an official lightstick. On September 14, a new Renewal Edition of Version 2 is coming out!

The lightstick of probably the most famous K-Pop girl group in the world is undoubtedly one that stands out from the crowd: It is basically a rubber hammer that makes squeaky sounds and can light up. Of course, it comes in black and pink.

The first version of the iconic lightstick was released in May 2018, about a year and a half after Blackpink's debut, and the second version in November 2020. The two versions are basically very similar, but several small changes were made.

For example, with version two, not only do both sides of the rubber hammer light up, but also a stripe at the top end of the handle. The first lightstick version could also stand upright on its own, because the bottom end of the handle is wider than the rest and has a flat base. With version 2, the bottom end of the handle is narrower and rounder, so it can no longer stand on its own, but it fits better in your hand.

The Ver. 2 Renewal Edition is very similar to the Ver. 2 we know.

At first glance, the biggest change is that we found the round power button is no longer pink, but black like the rest of the handle. The next difference can be seen in what's included: The Renewal Edition comes with a box, the lightstick, a hand strap and an instruction manual. The “original” Version 2 also came with a holder so you could stand the lightstick up. That doesn't seem to be the case this time. Apart from that, probably not much has changed.

We take another look at the details here!

The lightstick has four different levels:

  • Constant glow
  • The light is dimmed again and again
  • Flashing light
  • Off

Through the official app, you can also control the light of the lightstick and, for example, adjust the brightness. To do this, you connect the app and your lightstick via Bluetooth. Currently, the app has the Mood Light Mode, and more options are supposed to be added in the future!

In addition, there is the Central Control Mode for concerts, for example. Then your lightstick reacts to certain sounds and lights up to match the music. If the Renewal Edition is like the original Ver. 2, the lightstick also lights up in different colors in this mode.

The following video shows an example of what the mode looks like:

As before, you can use a switch on the top of the lightstick to turn off the squeaky sound of the rubber hammer. In our opinion, that is one of the most practical features. The sound is fun, but there are times when it rather gets in the way. Being able to switch between silent and sound is simply perfect!

The lightstick is powered by batteries: 3 x AAA
