We introduce you to the members of Kep1er!
On August 6, the first episode of Mnet's new survival show "Girls Planet 999" aired. This marked the beginning of a journey that ended after more than two months with the finale on October 22. At the end of the live show, it was finally decided which nine trainees would debut together as "Kep1er"!
If you haven't seen the show, this article is your chance to get to know the members of Kep1er a little before their debut!
Back at the beginning of the year, the auditions for Girls Planet 999 took place. In the end, 99 trainees were selected to compete in the survival show for a spot in the project group. The 99 candidates included 33 Korean (K-Group), 33 Chinese (C-Group) and 33 Japanese (J-Group) trainees. Up until near the end, the same amount of K, J and C trainees were always eliminated. Only one round before the final the separation was removed, so that the candidates in the final were no longer composed of equal numbers of members of the three groups.
Unfortunately, due to the Corona pandemic, no spectators were present at the finals, except for the trainers and the eliminated trainees. On the other hand, hundreds of thousands of fans from all over the world were cheering live in front of the screens! After weeks of laughing, crying and celebrating with the trainees, the tension was naturally extremely high. The decision, made on October 22, finally decided the fate of the 18 passionate trainees who had made it to the finals.
Here we introduce you to the nine trainees who realized their dream and won a place in the new girl group "Kep1er"!
Rank 9: Shen Xiaoting (C-Group)
She was introduced in Episode 1 as the highest rated trainee of C-Group, and impressed fans from the beginning with her talent and dazzling charm. She regularly took first place on the show, not only in C-Group, but overall!
In the finale, however, fans had to fear for her until she was finally called out as the ninth and final member of Kep1er!
Rank 8: Sakamoto Mashiro (J-Group)
Sakamoto Mashiro was a trainee under JYP Entertainment from 2016 to 2018, training alongside the members of ITZY.
In Girls Planet 999, she has convinced fans of her talent with each episode and has also emerged as a capable team leader.
Rank 7: Ezaki Hikaru (J-Group)
Hikaru ranked first in J-Group before the first episode and made a strong impression on fans with her first appearance on the show, covering Blackpink's Boombayah.
She always placed within the Top 4 until the finals, where she placed seventh!
Rank 6: Kang Ye Seo (K-Group)
Ye Seo was born in 20015, making her the youngest member of Kep1er. She was active as a child actress before joining Girls Planet. In 2019, she was also introduced as a new member of the girl group Busters. However, she and two others left the group when they went on hiatus and restructured in 2020.
In Girls Planet, for example, she won many fans' hearts with her emotional performance to "Fate."
Rank 5: Seo Young Eun (K-Group)
Seo Young Eun really drew attention for the first time especially with her cover of 2PM's My House in the second round of the show.
After impressing the fans with her charm and vocals in the next performance as well, she placed in the Top 9 for the first time just before the finale, eventually even reaching fifth place!
Rank 4: Kim Da Yeon (K-Group)
Da Yeon already participated in Mnet`s Survival Show Produce 48 before Girls Planet 999! There she was eliminated in 70th place. Three years later, she tried her luck in Girls Planet and was introduced there as the center of K-Group.
During the show, she impressed fans with her dance moves and skills as a team leader. Eventually, she secured a spot in "Kep1er"!
Rank 3: Choi Yujin (K-Group)
Yujin's participation in Girls Planet was a big topic of conversation among K-pop fans long before the show began. Yujin is, in fact, a member of the well-known girl group CLC. In an interview, she explained that she had been told that CLC would no longer work as a team. CLC's agency Cube Entertainment has not confirmed this yet. During the show, Yujin shined with her talent and cheerful personality, winning the sympathy of many fans. From the beginning to the end, she always placed within the top 5 and even reached 3rd place for the first time in the finale!
Rank 2: Huening Bahiyyih (K-Group)
Bahiyyih was probably best known to most as the sister of Huening Kai from TXT. However, during the show, she showed her talent and potential for the future.
Although she didn't get much screentime later on, fans ended up securing her a spot in "Kep1er"!
Rank 1: Kim Chaehyun (K-Group)
Chaehyun was a trainee under SM Entertainment for about six years, but left the agency sometime in 2019/2020. In Girls Planet, she impressed fans mostly with her vocals.
After being ranked 9th for a long time, Chaehyun shot to the top spot just before the finale! In the final, she managed to stay on top, making her the official center of "Kep1er"!
Girls Planet 999 is considered by many to be the fifth season of Produce 101 because the show is structured almost exactly the same. Looking at the success of groups like Wanna One and IZ*ONE that were created in the Produce series, we can probably assume that Kep1er will also release some hits in the future!
That future isn't even that far away, as rumor has it that Kep1er will be releasing their first album later this year!
