SM Entertainment is making waves in the K-Pop industry once again with the announcement of a new unit from the popular boy band NCT. We are not talking about NCT Tokyo, even though, like many others, we expected the Japanese unit to be the next NCT project to be tackled.
The new unit in question consists of Doyoung, Jaehyun and Jungwoo!
This information was shared today by SM Entertainment with the Korean news agency Sports W. Various international news sites have already started spreading the news. However, it doesn't sound like the three will form a completely new unit like NCT U, NCT Dream or NCT 127. It would be the first time that NCT members debut as a sub-unit.
SM Entertainment asks fans in a statement to look forward to the new project: "NCT Doyoung, Jaehyun and Jungwoo are preparing their first joint debut album and we will release it as soon as the schedule is confirmed. Please look forward to it."
Doyoung, Jaehyun and Jungwoo are especially known for their singing talent. NCT fans can undoubtedly hardly wait to see what the group's newest project has to offer!
Since their debut in 2016, NCT has caused a stir with their unique concept - unlimited members and units.
Only recently, however, SM Entertainment announced in a video that the group's infinite expansion will end with NCT Tokyo in 2023. Earlier plans for NCT Hollywood and units in Singapore and Saudi Arabia, some of which had been known since 2021, were scrapped.
Statement on NCT: 7:30
That makes the new trio all the more interesting! In the video, SM said that they will support the existing members, and that is already showing. We can hardly wait to see more members throw themselves into new activities.
And the new unit is not even the only NCT album awaiting us in the first half of the year!
On February 20, SM uploaded an annual report in which they announced which of their artists will make a comeback in the first half of 2023. The report already mentioned the debut of an NCT unit in April, even though some may have thought that it was NCT Tokyo. In May, on the one hand, the long-awaited comeback of SHINee is set to take place, the first one after Taemin's return from the military in March. In addition, a member of NCT will debut as a soloist! Who exactly it is, however, is not yet known.
As you can see, things won't be quiet around NCT in the future either!
