With "Queendom" a new Red Velvet album is finally on the way!
December 2019 saw the release of "The ReVe Festival: Finale", Red Velvet's last album as a group to date. Just two days later, on 25 December, member Wendy fell more than two metres during the dress rehearsal for the annual "Gayo Daejun" music festival held by TV station SBS. Wendy was hospitalised with fractures in her pelvis and wrist, as well as a broken cheekbone. On the same day, her agency SM Entertainment announced that the other members of Red Velvet would continue their individual activities at other year-end shows, but would not perform as a group. The SBS team was heavily criticised by fans because the accident occurred when Wendy was sent to the stage in the dark and lost her balance because the lift she was supposed to board had not gone up.
In early 2020, Joy, Yeri, Irene and Seulgi continued the arena tour "La Rouge" in Japan, which had started in November 2019, without Wendy. In fact, it was quiet for Wendy for a long time as she recovered from her injuries. In July, Irene & Seulgi released their album "Monster" as Red Velvet`s first sub-unit.
Wendy only partially returned to her activities in August 2020. Together with the rest of the group, she released a cover of BoA`s "Milky Way" and a soundtrack for the K-drama "Start-Up". On the first of January 2021, she even performed at SM Town`s online concert "Culture Humanity".
Fans were particularly excited about her solo debut with the mini album "Like Water", which followed in April and officially signalled the end of her hiatus. Another solo debut followed in May, when Joy released her first album "Hello".
Then in June, SM Entertainment announced the news that countless fans around the world have undoubtedly been eagerly awaiting: Red Velvet will return in August with a new album!
In the last few days, a series of teasers appeared on the official Youtube channel of the group. As if the anticipation wasn't great enough, a shimmering logo for "Queendom" was released on Twitter yesterday.
The album is to contain six songs and will be released on 16 August.
As with the recently released solo albums, there will be a photobook version and a case version of "Queendom".
The Photobook version includes the CD, an 84-page photobook, a portrait card, a bookmark, a photo card and optionally, for pre-orders only, a poster. The Case version comes with the CD, a photobook, two postcards, a folded poster, a special card, two stickers, a photo card and also an optional poster.
