Last night, SHINee surprised fans by revealing details of their new single album “Poet | Artist”. Fans reacted very emotionally to the announcement, because the comeback shares its title with the last album by SHINee’s late lead vocalist Jonghyun. The single will be released on May 25, the group’s 17th anniversary.
It’s hard to believe, but SHINee has actually been on stage for 17 years, delighting fans again and again with innovative concepts, bold fashion trends and catchy hits.
The group debuted on May 25, 2008 with five members: Onew, Jonghyun, Key, Minho & Taemin. Sadly, Jonghyun passed away on December 18, 2017, at the age of 27.
On January 23, 2018, Jonghyun's fifth and final solo album “Poet | Artist” was released, one month after his death. The singer had finished the album shortly before, and his family wished for this last work to be released as well.
In the following years, the remaining members emphasized that SHINee will always be five, and remembered their friend with, among other things, the title track “Our Page” from the mini album “The Story of Light EP. 3”.
SHINEE’S “POET | ARTIST” IS A TRIBUTE TO JONGHYUN:
This year, Onew, Key, Minho & Taemin are dedicating an entire album to their bandmate. Besides the title, the contents also remind us of Jonghyun. In fact, there is even a version dedicated specifically to him!
The PHOTOBOOK version kicks things off:
Longtime fans probably found the design and format immediately familiar. The photobook has 96 pages and is exactly the same size as Jonghyun’s “Poet | Artist” and the solo debut albums of the individual members: ACE (Taemin), BASE (Jonghyun), FACE (Key), VOICE (Onew) & CHASE (Minho). So it will fit perfectly into your collection!
Inside, besides the CD, you will find one of 2 possible group photocards, one of 2 group postcards, one of 2 folded posters and stickers.
The 5 FLUFFY SHINee versions are another highlight:
Each version is dedicated to one of the 5 members: FIRSTBORN (Onew), SECONDBORN (Jonghyun), THIRDBORN (Key), FOURTHBORN (Minho) & MAKNAE (Taemin)
Above all, you can look forward to a fluffy charm with magnetic hands. If you have several charms, they can hold hands with each other. In addition, you get a music NFC card, one of 4 mini postcards, one of 5 stickers and one of 3 possible photocards. The photocards differ in each version, because they show the respective SHINee member.
The SECONDBORN version is a little different. Instead of one of 3 member photocards, it contains a group photocard. In addition, the packaging doesn’t just show one hand holding the fluffy charm, but 4 hands: Onew, Key, Minho and Taemin are holding Jonghyun's charm for him.
This album is already something very special and will surely soon become an absolute treasure in the collections of millions of SHINee fans all over the world.
So far there are no musical previews of the new single, but two short clips were uploaded to SHINee’s official TikTok account yesterday and the day before, in which the members seem to be practicing the choreography for the new song.
To celebrate the 17th anniversary, the concert “SHINee World VII: E.S.S.A.Y (Every Stage Shines Around You)” will also take place from March 23 - 25. Since yesterday, past SHINee World concerts have been streamed for free on SHINee’s official YouTube channel! Tune in regularly to sweeten the wait for the new single!
