NewJeans starts 2023 with the single album "OMG"!
2022 was a year of girl groups, especially thanks to the many new rookie girl groups that debuted this year, like Le sserafim, Nmixx or NewJeans. They have conquered the hearts of fans and stormed the charts in no time! Thanks to NewJeans, the year 2023 also begins with female power, because on January 3, the second album "OMG" will be released!
Single Album OMG
As with the first album, this time there are a few different versions to choose from: 6 Message Card versions and a Weverse Albums version.
Five Message Card versions are dedicated to the five members. So there is a Minji version, a Hanni version, a Danielle version, a Haerin version and a Hyein version. In addition, there is the NewJeans version. They all consist of a box, each containing, in addition to the CD, a 52-page photo book, a lyric paper, a message card set (25 pcs.), a photo card set (5 pcs.) and a sticker set (2 pcs.).
Some contents will be different from each other, because of course the Minji version will focus more on Minji or the Haerin version will focus on Haerin. Who is your bias in NewJeans?
Alternatively, we can still offer you the Weverse Albums version. Buyers get a box, with a 28-page lyric paper, one of 3 possible QR cards and a photo card set.
Thanks to the QR card you can access digital content like the songs and exclusive photos or videos. The Weverse Albums version will especially make the heart of photo cards fans beat faster, because the set consists of 10 different cards! Still, a bit of surprise remains, as buyers will randomly get one of three different sets.
Several concept teasers have already been uploaded on Twitter, such as an animated card with a snowman and the phrase "Winter is coming" on it. So we can look forward to a wintry single.
As with the first album, NewJeans will shorten the waiting time with a pre-release single. This will be released already in one week, on December 19.
With OMG, the young girl group celebrates its first comeback!
The new album must live up to high expectations, because the debut album attracted a lot of attention. Maybe you remember it, but if not, we like to take a look back:
NewJeans surprised the K-pop scene when a music video for the new song "Attention" was released on July 22, 2022 without any warning or any promotions. It wowed the masses and topped both the Circle Charts (formerly "Gaon") and Billboard Charts! In addition, the music video was viewed more than 1.3 million times in less than 24 hours.
The next day, the debut album was officially announced, which, like the girl group itself, is called "NewJeans." In addition to Attention, two more songs - "Hybe Boy" and "Hurt" - from the album were released in advance. These two pre-release singles also reached high chart positions and further increased the anticipation for the official debut!
On August 1, NewJeans finally made their debut with their mini album "NewJeans" and the title track "Cookie".
The album contains a total of four songs: Cookie and the three pre-release singles. By that time, the girl group had already broken records! In fact, on July 28, it was announced that more than 444,000 copies of the album had been pre-ordered. More than any other debut album by a Korean girl group before!
All four songs ranked high on all national charts like Melon or Genie, and the album was streamed more than 2.06 million times on Spotify on the first day. This is also a record, as no other girl group that debuted in 2022 achieved so many streams on the first day!
NewJeans also resonated outside of South Korea. Among others, "Cookie," "Attention," and "Hybe Boy" placed on the real-time charts of Japan's biggest music site "Line Music".
With all the records and attention, it's no wonder that NewJeans was nominated for 17 different awards at the annual award shows!
Three awards the young girl group actually managed to take home: Next Leader Award (The Fact Music Awards), Best New Artist (Melon Music Awards) and Top 10 Artist (Melon Music Awards).
NewJeans' early success has raised high expectations, which Minji, Danielle, Haerin, Hyein and Hanni hope to live up to in the future. After hits like Attention and Hybe Boy, which quite a few K-Pop fans would call their favorite songs of 2022, we are of course also very excited about the new songs.
